Esteemed Men Of Horror
Most men in horror movies are gaslighting douchebags who would sell you out for half a sandwich.
But not these men.
No!
These men go above and beyond to be genuinely good dudes, especially when things get terrifying.
Being brave is hard, being brave when you’re scared, is another thing entirely.
Here's our list of the yummiest protectors in horror:
MAJOR SPOILERS
MAJOR SPOILERS
Train to Busan (2016)
Sang-Hwa: This man spends the entire movie throwing hands with the apocalypse for his pregnant wife, a little girl who isn't even his, and basically anyone else who needs help. Through pure strength, stubbornness, and unshakable conviction, he becomes the most badass bitch on the way to Busan and looks damn fine doing it.
The Crazies (2010)
David: He’s handsome, brave, and funny? His line of, “don't ask me why I can't leave without my wife and I won't ask you why you can". Bury me where I fall.
Lights Out (2016)
Bret: He promises he'll be there, then leaves, which, let's be honest, is exactly what I expected. But then this absolute king comes back with the full fury of the police department behind him. A shocking display of follow-through.
A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)
Eric: Fluffy cat saver extraordinaire.
The Faculty (1998)
Zeke: looks like a stereotypical bad boy, but the moment aliens start taking over the school, he immediately switches into "protect the group" mode. And we love it!
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010)
Not one good dude. Two good dudes.
They're just trying their absolute best to help people, and somehow everyone keeps accidentally dying around them. Their hearts are pure, your honor.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Lee: Spends the entire movie protecting his family and ultimately sacrifices himself to save his children. A+ fathering.
30 Days of Night (2007)
Eben: Josh Hartnett's character literally turns himself into a vampire to save everyone else. Total protector vibes. 10/10.
Annabelle (2014)
John: A good husband and a good dad, he tried his best!
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Shaun: His efforts don't always seem to amount to much because he consistently chooses the wrong course of action. But his heart is in the right place, and every failure is a sincere attempt to save the people he loves.
Insidious: Out Of The Further (2026)
Nick: I fully expected him to leave multiple times, instead he was ripping up floorboards and breaking the law!
Horror is full of trecherous betrayers and appalling danger, but every now and then you get a man whose first instinct, even when he's terrified, is to step between danger and the people he cares about.
So, men, and protectors of women: when you're scared and you protect us anyway, thank you. And we'll do our best to be brave for you, too. And to follow directions.
